Black hole perturbations in higher-order scalar–tensor theories: initial value problem and dynamical stability

چکیده

We propose a physically sensible formulation of initial value problem for black hole perturbations in higher-order scalar-tensor theories. As first application, we study monopole around stealth Schwarzschild solutions shift- and reflection-symmetric subclass degenerate (DHOST) In particular, investigate the time evolution by solving two-dimensional wave equation analyze Vishveshwara's classical scattering experiment, i.e., Gaussian packet. result, confirm that DHOST theory are dynamically stable against with wavelength comparable or shorter than size horizon. also find damped oscillations at late do not show up unlike ringdown phase standard case general relativity. Moreover, characteristic curves as well static spherically symmetric solution hair.

Higher order gravity theories and their black hole solutions

In these lectures notes, we will discuss a particular higher order gravity theory, Lovelock theory, that generalises in higher dimensions than 4, general relativity. After briefly motivating modifications of gravity, we will introduce the theory in question and we will argue that it is a unique, mathematically sensible, and physically interesting extension of general relativity. We will see, by...

Approximate Solutions to the Binary Black Hole Initial Value Problem

We present approximate analytical solutions to the Hamiltonian and momentum constraint equations, corresponding to systems composed of two black holes with arbitrary linear and angular momentum. The analytical nature of these initial data solutions makes them easier to implement in numerical evolutions than the traditional numerical approach of solving the elliptic equations derived from the Ei...

Microscopic Black Hole Entropy in Theories with Higher Derivatives

We discuss higher derivative corrections to black hole entropy in theories that allow a near horizon AdS3 ×X geometry. In arbitrary theories with diffeomorphism invariance we show how to obtain the spacetime central charge in a simple way. Black hole entropy then follows from the Euclidean partition function, and we show that this gives agreement with Wald’s formula. In string theory there are ...

Black Hole Entropy for Two Higher Derivative Theories of Gravity

The dark energy issue is attracting the attention of an increasing number of physicists all over the world. Among the possible alternatives to explain what as been named the “Mystery of the Millennium” are the so-called Modified Theories of Gravity. A crucial test for such models is represented by the existence and (if this is the case) the properties of their black hole solutions. Nowadays, to...

Are Higher Order Membranes stable in Black Hole Spacetimes?

We continue the study of the existence and stability of static spherical membrane con gurations in curved spacetimes. We rst consider higher order membranes described by a Lagrangian which, besides the Dirac term, includes a term proportional to the scalar curvature of the world{volume (3)R. Notably, in this case, the equations of motion can be reduced to second order ones and an e ective poten...
